5 Essentials for Collecting More Reviews
Collecting as many authentic reviews as possible is critical to gaining shopper confidence, increasing conversion, and building a trusted brand. But many stores miss simple optimizations that can significantly boost review submission rates.
At Loox, we’ve fine-tuned the review collection process to help merchants get the best results. But your setup plays a major role in how many reviews you collect. Are you missing out on valuable reviews?
Optimize these 5 key elements to make sure you’re getting the most out of Loox.
- Review Request Subject Line
- Review Request Email Content
- Discounts for Photo and Video Reviews
- Review Request Timing
- Reminders
1. Review Request Subject Line

Your subject line determines whether customers open your review request email—or ignore it. A clear, well-structured subject line makes your email feel relevant, personal, and worth their time. We recommend keeping your subject line short, clear, and personalized. Including the order name is a proven way to grab attention and improve deliverability.
Our top-performing subject line:
- "Order [order_name], how did it go?"
Pro tip: If you’re offering a discount for a photo or video review, we recommend not mentioning it in the subject line because some email providers may flag this as promotional.
2. Review Request Email Content

While it’s tempting to rewrite the entire email, sticking close to our tried and tested template can boost response rates. That said, you can still add a bit of personality to make it feel more like your brand.
Here’s what we recommend:
- Keep it short and review-focused. Make the email direct and easy to scan so customers immediately understand what you're asking.
- Add your logo, colors, and a banner image. This keeps your email on-brand and visually appealing without impacting performance.
- Mention discounts for photo/video reviews. Highlight the incentive in the email body or with a visual banner.
Personalization is key, but balance it with what we know works. Think of it as making the email feel like your brand, while still following our best practices.
3. Discounts for Photo and Video Reviews

Offering discounts for photo and video reviews not only increases the amount of visual content you collect but also strengthens consumer trust—driving higher sales. In fact, 62% of shoppers are more likely to purchase when they can see real customer photos and videos, making visual UGC a powerful tool for conversions.
Pro tips:
- Offer fixed discounts: Merchants providing fixed-amount discounts, rather than percentage-based ones, see a 40% increase in visual reviews.
- Offer higher discounts for video reviews: Offering a higher discount for video reviews compared to photo reviews can boost video UGC collection by up to 500%.
4. Review Request Timing

Timing is everything when it comes to collecting reviews. Sending review requests at the right moment can significantly increase your response rates. The goal is to find the sweet spot when customers are most excited about their new purchase and have had enough time to experience its value.
This is known as time-to-value (TTV)—the amount of time it takes for a customer to experience a product’s benefits. Some products deliver value instantly, while others take more time.
Find your product's TTV
What does “value” mean for your product?
- Does your product provide immediate value (e.g. clothing, phone accessories)?
- Or does it take time for results to show (e.g. skincare, supplements)?
How long does it take for customers to experience the value?
Consider when customers fully benefit from the product—whether that’s right away or after consistent use. Set your review request timing to allow customers enough time to experience the product before asking for feedback.
Example:
- Clothing: Customers use them immediately, so requesting a review a few days after delivery may be ideal.
- Skincare: Customers typically see results in about 1-2 weeks after delivery so a later request may work better.
Use these as general guidelines and adjust timing based on what you know about your customers' experience.
Set the right trigger for Review Requests
If your Shopify store tracks shipment status, we recommend setting your review requests to trigger "After Delivery." This ensures that customers receive the request only after they've had a chance to use your product.
Note: Loox needs to receive a delivery update via Shopify’s shipment_status field or the Loox + AfterShip integration for this setting to work. If these are unavailable, use the "After Fulfillment" trigger instead.
Experiment with your timing
To fine-tune your timing, we recommend testing different time frames and reviewing the results after a few weeks.
You can use this data to refine your approach and ensure your review requests hit customers at just the right moment.
5. Review Request Reminders

Many customers intend to leave a review but your first review request email may have arrived when they were busy or hadn’t had a chance to use the product yet. That’s why Loox’s default setting includes two automated review reminders–to ensure you don’t miss out on valuable feedback.
Why two reminders work best:
- The first reminder increases review submissions by 57%
- The second reminder boosts review submissions by an additional 21%
These reminders help you effortlessly collect more reviews by gently prompting customers at the right time.
Best Practice: Keep the default two-reminder setting enabled to maximize review submissions.
